There is no one theory that is the magic answer. We incorporate a variety of treatment approaches according to your unique needs.

We believe that there are many avenues to change and growth, and no two people are alike in terms of what will work best. Therefore, we take an integrative approach to therapy and incorporate a variety of treatment approaches according to your unique needs. The below modalities are a few of the modalities we frequently use with our clients.

Social Justice-informed Therapy and Feminist Theory

Questions our cultural understandings and advocates for fairness. As POC and queer identified social justice advocates, therapists at Fig Tree understand the importance of culture, privilege, racism, heterosexism, oppression, classism, ageism, etc. These contextual elements play an important role in our lives and are considered when determining goals and strengths in your treatment.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

focuses on changing your current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to improve your moods and find solutions. You will work with your therapist in a structured way to gain awareness of inaccurate or negative thinking so you can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

The goals of DBT are to teach you how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate your emotions, and improve your relationships with others. DBT might be helpful for you if you have difficulty with emotional regulation or self-destructive behaviors, including impulsivity, eating disorders, substance abuse, emotional dysregulation and interpersonal conflict.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

The aim of ACT is to be able to experience life as rich and meaningful, while accepting that pain is an inevitable part of life. ACT helps you to accept what is out of your personal control, and commit to action that improves and enriches yourlife. We do this by teaching psychological skills to effectively address painful thoughts and feelings so that they have less impact and influence. We also help you determine what is most important to youand make use of that knowledge to guide, inspire, and motivate change for the better.
