About Our Practice

+ Does your practice provide virtual / telehealth services?

Yes! For the time being, we have moved our services exclusively online. Clients have the option to conduct sessions through a video platform or over the phone. Most BlueCross BlueShield PPO plans in Illinois is providing coverage for telehealth services (and many are waiving all copays for mental health services). However, please check with your insurance provider to verify coverage specifically for virtual mental and behavioral health services.

This is a great time to begin therapy, and we are accepting new clients. Please reach out via the contact us form. We will connect you with a therapist as soon as one business day.

+ Does your practice only work with POC and LGBTQ+ identified clients?

Of course not! While identity exploration is one of our specialties and it is our mission to provide a culturally sensitive and gender-affirming space, we certainly provide therapy to all individuals―no matter your identity or background. Our therapists are trained in working with a variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem and personality disorders. You do not need to be in the POC or LGBTQ+ community to receive therapy here; however, we intentionally strive to maintain a safe space for all of our clients and clinicians. Insurance & Payment Information

+ Do you take insurance?

Yes, we do! We are in-network for Aetna PPO, BCBS PPO, and BlueChoice PPO insurance plans. Please see each clinicians profile to determine if insurance is accepted by each specific provider. If you have one of these plans, please call your insurance company to confirm your deductible, copay, and/or coinsurance for psychotherapy.

+ How does insurance work?

Insurance is complicated, we get it! Here’s a brief explanation of how Fig Tree utilizes insurance.

All clients are asked to provide the front and back of their insurance card as well as state-issued photo identification for validating you are who you say you are. Ideally, your therapist will verify benefits as a courtesy. However, it is not guaranteed due to scheduling and technical issues. To find out exactly what your mental health benefits and coverage is, you will need to call your insurance company. You can contact them by calling the phone number on the back of your insurance card. Your mental health benefits may also be referred to as “behavioral health benefits.”

There is no way for us to determine exactly what is covered under an insurance plan until we submit the claim from your first session. Your insurance will process it, and send us a document to explain how much they will, or not cover your session. Typically, we’ll find out that information within one month, but it can take longer.

Any client’s financial responsibility (i.e., co-pay or co-insurance) is due at the time of appointment and is processed the same day as the appointment.

+ How will I know how much a session costs with insurance coverage?

To find out exactly what your mental health benefits and coverage is, you will need to call your insurance company. You can contact them by calling the phone number on the back of your insurance card. Your mental health benefits may also be referred to as “behavioral health benefits.”

+ What is the out-of-pocket amount for a therapy session at FigTree Counseling?

Intake sessions cost $215, and regular sessions cost $200. These rates apply to both individuals and couples. Group therapy is $50/session.

+ What if I have a different insurance provider from the ones you mentioned above?

Many insurance plans will offer at least partial reimbursement for counseling fees. For clients who have an out-of-network plan, the fee upon service is $215 for an initial appointment and $200 for a regular session. Upon request, we can provide you with an itemized form, or ‘superbill’ (the technical term insurance companies use), for you to submit a claim to your insurance company for reimbursement. We strongly recommend that you call your insurance company BEFORE your first therapy session to find out if they will reimburse you and what their reimbursement rate is. Ask if they cover the following CPT codes: 90791 (first session) and 90837 (regular session).

+ What if I don’t have insurance and can’t afford the full fee?

We want everyone to have access to the mental health care they need. We offer a sliding scale dependent upon your financial situation (typically $120-150/session depending on the clinician). If you need additional support, please visit Open Path Collective.

We are excited to be creating a support fund for free or low-cost therapy for targeted, at-risk individuals (specifically, BIPOC activists). If you have the ability to pay the full fee for your therapy sessions or are able to donate more, this allows Fig Tree to build up this fund and offer these important therapy sessions free of charge or at a more affordable rate.
